Family Fun Day
Today was picture perfect. Thanks to REACH, I had the day off. Mitch decided to take a vacation day so we could enjoy a fun family day! We pondered all week on what we should do - Science Museum, Como Zoo, the Walker Art Center Sculpture Gardens, just so many choices! After checking the forecast and seeing sunshine and 70 degree temperatures, we heard Como Zoo calling our name!
It was nice not to hear my alarm buzzing at 5am. We were all able to sleep in a little bit, we enjoyed a nice breakfast then got ready for our day of fun. We pulled into the "Wolf Lot" around Noon and realized we weren't the only people who thought this was a good place to be on a beautiful Friday. We noticed several school buses there for field trips and many families strolling around the grounds.
We started off in the Conservatory checking out some stunning floral arrangements. We walked into the Sunken Gardens and couldn't help but comment on the incredible aroma. The smell was lovely, and the colors so vibrant. It really made me thankful summer is right around the corner! I think Harper enjoyed herself too!
After the Conservatory we made our way through the Zoo doors. It was absolutely beautiful out, as we moseyed around checking out all the animals. We started with the flamingos, making our way to the seals and other marine animals. Harper seems to enjoy watching the fish swimming around. We checked out the zebras, giraffes, lions and tigers - and ended our trip with the monkey's. I think Harper's first Zoo trip will be memorable, for us anyway!
We made our way to the car with rumbling bellies, so we decided to head to The Nook for a burger! It's a little dive bar that's actually been featured on Food Network's Diner's, Drive-Ins & Dives. They seated us in a little corner booth, and handed us the menus. We were starving, so naturally we over-ordered. Cheese curds, cheese stuffed burgers, coleslaw, french fries and a cold beer... could you ask for a better lunch? I didn't think so. The food was incredible, and I don't think I'm just saying that since I was famished when I arrived. I would absolutely make the trip back to St. Paul for that burger again!
With a short work week, the days seemed to fly by! Mitch started his softball league on Tuesday. He is playing in Rogers this year rather than Minneapolis, so it's nice it's a lot closer to home. They were able to play one of their two scheduled games before the rain and lightning show canceled their second game. Thursday, the weather was finally nice enough for me and the ladies to start golf league. This is our third year playing at New Hope Golf Course. Every Thursday at 6:19, Jennie, Jenna, Amanda and myself enjoy the fresh air, gossip, oh and of course play some golf. It's such a great time with those women, and I'm excited the season has officially began!
With my recent book worm status, Mitch's sister Jennie has started a book club. Naturally our first book is Fifty Shades of Grey since everyone is wrapped up in the series. I'm almost finished with book three, gosh is it good! In June we're all gathering at Jennie's house to discuss, drink and eat. I can't wait! There is so much to discuss, I mean honestly - we're talking about Christian Grey here!
The rest of this weekend will probably be pretty low key since it's our only free weekend in May. With Cinco de Mayo tomorrow we may need visit El Rodeo for a tasty Mexican meal and throw back a few Coronas and Margaritas! Hope everyone has a great weekend - enjoy the Derby and Cinco de Mayo!
Until next time...
