Birthday Boy
28. That's a measly 2 years away from 30, and it's in the near future for Mitch. Yesterday we celebrated his 28th birthday. Our morning was just like any other day... shower, eat, get Harper ready, drop her off at Grandma's and head into work. I gave Mitch the task to think of somewhere he wanted to go eat to celebrate his birthday and a recent promotion. He chose one of our favorite spots in Maple Grove, P.F. Changs. Harper was pretty fussy on the way, but as usual slept during our entire dinner. We scarfed down pork fried rice and our entrees like we hadn't eaten in days followed by my favorite, a fortune cookie. When we returned home Mitch opened his gifts, and blew out his candle on a big slice of carrot cake. I think overall he had a good birthday celebrating with his girls!
This past weekend Mitch's brother Nick was in town for a volleyball tournament. He plays on NDSU's men's team, and they are pretty entertaining to watch! Since the games took place at Bethel College in Arden Hills, it was an easy trip for us to make. We spent the majority of the day cheering on the Bison, and even snuck in a little shopping trip since we were so close to Rosedale.
Sunday was one of my favorite days of the year! The Academy Awards!! I'm a total sucker for award shows. I'm sad to admit it, but I thrive on celebrity gossip and red carpets. Always have, always will. Eonline and People are website I visit daily, not to mention an occasional TMZ and Gawker visit. I can sit and click through red carpet pictures for hours, for whatever reason I'm fascinated with them. I was a little disappointed with the show in general, Billy Crystal was a total snooze-fest. I'm hoping next year they can spice it up with someone relevant.
This week was pretty quiet for us. We did get hit with our biggest snowfall of season on Wednesday. It all started Tuesday with a nasty mix of rain, sleet and snow. By the time I woke up for work on Wednesday morning we had about 5 inches of snow over a sheet of ice. There was a car stuck at the very end of our driveway so I had to wait for him to shovel his tires out before I could even attempt the drive. I made it out of our driveway and barely around the bend of the road before my tires started spinning. I attempted this for a while, and finally realized I wasn't going anywhere. We freed the Outlander from the snow and I parked at the very end of the driveway, called work and let them know I was going to wait for the plows to come by. Mitch and I shoveled the driveway, and I was finally able to slide my way out of the neighborhood around 8am. Traffic surprisingly wasn't awful, but we were all going way under the speed limit. The snow finally stopped and it warmed up during the day melting a significant amount. By next week they're forecasting near 50 degree temperatures, so I think it's safe to say we can kiss this snow goodbye. I'm hoping we can put a close to our winter season, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
After picking Harper up at my parents today, we were greeted at the door with gifts. Mitch had made a Target run and picked up a few things. The most important, chapstick. We both go through tubes like it's going out of style. Also in the bag was a copy of Tina Fey's book, Bossypants. I can't wait to finish The Hunger Games so I can read her hilarious book. Harper's gift was a new play gym, which she has at both of our parent's house. She LOVES these things, constantly kicking the dangling objects and watching herself in the mirror. Our living room is continuing to pile up with her toys and gadgets. I can only imagine it gets worse as she gets older, and the grandparents load her up with whatever she wants.
She has still been pretty good at sticking to a regular routine since I've been back to work. Last night was by far her longest sleeping stretch... OVER 5 HOURS! By now, that feels like an eternity. She seems to be pretty consistent throughout the week, which is nice. She is not much of a nap taker during the day, which leaves us with an occasional Miss Crabby Pants at night. She gets so tired she'll just whine until she finally tires herself out. Since I'm back working full-time I'm unable to snap a ridiculous amount of pictures throughout the day. (I'm thinking she is thankful for that!) I try to get at least a few goodies during the week, so below are a few of my favs from this week!
Until next time...
