Quarantine, Week 3 | WrestleMania

Now more than ever, we're looking for distractions. As Easter weekend approaches, I'm missing our usual spring events. Family time. Dance competitions. School celebrations. Birthday parties. Dinner with friends. I miss it all, and I'm sure most of you do too.

We're realizing, in the middle of this world-wide pandemic, we have to get creative when it comes to keeping ourselves entertained. And what's more entertaining than WWE?

Yep. WWE. World Wrestling Entertainment, that WWE. I never expected to know the entire roster of Monday Night Raw or Friday Night Smackdown, wrestlers theme songs, or their relationship statuses - but these are some weird times. Plus, I've come to realize when one of our kiddos loves something, Mith and I tend to go all-in with them.

Here's a little back story about the Helleen family and WWE. Last year, out of nowhere Emmett became fascinated with the WWE. It started with retro wrestlers like Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, Ted Dibiase, and Macho Man. His passion quickly grew, and soon he knew hundreds of wrestlers, past and present. You may laugh when I use the word "passion" to describe my 5-year old son's interest in WWE, but honestly, the kid is a walking encyclopedia. He knows their names, their nicknames, their theme songs, their signature moves, their rivals, their costumes, he knows so much about entertainers.

Okay, back to present quarantine day. WrestleMania is like the Superbowl in the wrestling world. It's a big, gosh darn deal, and we promised the kiddos months ago we would order the two-night event on pay-per-view. Like most events in the current COVID-19 world, they had to make adjustments. There were no cheering fans, and the venue shifted from a giant stadium to their smaller performance center. We knew it was going to look and feel different, but we were still ready to cheer on our favorites.

All week we counted down the days to WrestleMania. It was a little exciting to look forward to an event, even if we were staying home. During our bi-weekly grocery store run, Mitch picked up special snacks and boxed candy for the special nights. He also had an AMAZING idea that made the entire weekend even more special. To feel like we were there, we created tickets, and an over-priced concession stand with a functioning cash register.

Most of our Saturday was spent crafting. Each of us was assigned a section of the concession stand signage. We drew pictures, colored bubble letters, and some of us even went a little overboard with the signs. (I can't help myself. I love a good theme party!)

We spent all night downstairs, pretending we were fans in the stands. It was silly, entertaining, a great distraction, and truly a memory that will last a lifetime.

Our forced family time continues to be extended. We still don't have many answers on how long this will go on. Are we driving each other crazy? Sure, some days. Are we creating some pretty cool memories along the way? Heck yes, we are.

We hope you continue to be entertained and are finding distractions of your own. If you have family entertainment suggestions, we'd love to hear them!

Stay safe, and find fun!
