Intense Week

What a whirlwind of a week, and I'm sure most of you reading this can relate. Unfortunately we all started out last Monday with the tragic news in Boston. The stories, images and videos that flooded the internet, radio and television that night and the rest of the week were absolutely heartwrenching. Our hearts ache for that city and everyone effected by the senseless act of violence.

As the week went on, we could only hope for a little positive news. A blizzard in April does not equal positive news in my eyes. Thursday into Friday we received roughly 8"-10" inches of heavy wet snow. Schools were closed, cars were stuck, and kids were building snowmen on their April 19th snow day. Meanwhile in my hometown of DeSoto, Missouri - they were in the middle of a flash flood. The pictures my Aunt Joan shared on Facebook made my jaw drop. A large portion of the town was under water, and no one had power. My grandparents evacuated their home at one point, and could only go up the hill to get away from the water. Luckily everyone is safe, just a little shaken from the whole experience. Mother nature was a wild one this week.

After a long, heartbreaking week... a wedding was a perfect way to spend Friday night. I met Becky back in college after spending plenty of weekends at the University of Minnesota with Amanda. Her and Ryan had a beautiful wedding downtown Minneapolis, and boy was it a blast. Becky looked beautiful in her white gown, and the venue was gorgeous. There is just something about weddings that puts me in a great mood. Seeing the lovely couple so happy, visiting with friends we haven't seen in a while, eating a drinking a little too much - how could you not love them? Overall, it was a perfect night! Congrats to the Scribner's!

My parents watched Harper that night while Mitch and I enjoyed a night out. Below is a photo my Dad texted to me. Here's the what the text read: "Harps loving her ice cream!!!" Yep, that's an entire McDonald's vanilla ice cream cone. Harper even took a second from devouring her sweet treat to give her best "cheese face" for the photo op. My Dad has been saying for the last 16 months, "I can't wait until we can go get ice cream together!" Well Dad, you can check that off your list! :)

The rest of our weekend has been pretty low key. I don't think Harper feels 100% so she's shown us her cranky pants a little more than usual. It's so sad when you know they don't feel great, but you can't do anything to change it. We've watched a lot of Sprout, and played on the iPad (her newest obsession) while lounging around. Hopefully a couple good naps and some rest will help today. Maybe naps for all? I think I could handle that.

Until next time...
The Helleen's
