First Night Out

Monday night was our first night out as a couple since Harper was born. Mitch has recently dabbled into wine, so for Christmas I signed us up for an Introduction to Wine class through Surdyk's. We lined up our first babysitter for Harper (Grandpa & Granny Helleen), and dropped her off for a few hours while we headed to Northeast Minneapolis for some vino. It was such a weird feeling leaving her behind since we've spent every waking moment together for the last few weeks. I knew she was in great hands, but already missed her as we backed out of the driveway.

We arrived a little early, with just enough time to grab Chipotle before the class. We walked into Gingerhop, which is a modern Asian restaurant where the class took place. We filled our plates with delicious cheeses, crackers and bread, then took our seats. We enjoyed our few hours out testing 8 different wines and learning the proper way to taste. Swirl, sniff, sip... repeat. Mitch really enjoyed his Christmas gift, and we plan to look into additional classes offered by Surdyk's. We both had a nice time out, but were anxious to get home to see Harper. She was a good girl for Bob and Deb, and I think they enjoyed their babysitting job.

On Tuesday, it was an usual January day here in Minnesota. We were experiencing record highs, temperatures that are completely unheard of this time of year. I'm talking 50+ degrees. Since it was pleasant outside, Harper and I decided to venture up to Elm Creek Park to watch Austin's cross country ski meet. Since all the meets are at 3:30pm, usually I can't make it. Being on maternity leave, it gave me a chance to cheer him on at least once during his high school career. Plus, if it's 50 degrees in January I have no problem stepping foot outside. Austin did great, I believe he finished in the top 10 for Osseo! I realized how much of a "total body workout" cross country skiing is. Watching these kids ski up and down these hills, pumping their arms and legs was enough to make me tired! We had a great time watching Aust, and hopefully I can make it to a few more meets!

The rest of our week has been spent relaxing at home and being lazy. The weather has taken a turn for the worst the last couple days, and we're dealing with typical January temps. We've been staying in our warm cozy house and not venturing out in the windchills. Mitch and I have also discovered the popular app "Words With Friends." We both completely understand why Alec Baldwin refused to stop his game on the airplane... it's insanely addicting. I've also given in to Pinterest and like everyone says, it's an instant addiction. I found most of my time yesterday consumed by boards and pins. It's a great site, and I'm excited to see what I can find.

Harper was officially 4 weeks yesterday. As I've mentioned before, I feel like she has been a part of our lives forever but it's only been 4 weeks. We had a rough start with her delivery, but since we've come home it's been such a great experience. We're constantly admiring at her many facial expressions, and her adorable rolls and folds. She is what people would describe as a "healthy" baby. She enjoys her food, just like her Mama. I love those chubby cheeks, and could sit and stare at them all day! It truly is amazing how much love Mitch and I have for her. She has been such a blessing and we can't wait to see how she continues to grow!

With MLK day this Monday, Mitch has a long weekend home with us. We're looking forward to hanging out! With no set plans, that leaves 3 full days open for us to hang out as a family. That sounds pretty perfect to me!

Until next time...
