Long Weekends, 9 Month Milestones & Celebrating Baby Morsch

Another memorable and successful Memorial Day weekend in the books.

It was our second year renting a cabin with Mitch's family at Kavanaugh's Resort in Brainerd for the long holiday weekend. We opted to take Friday off from work so we could get a head start up north and enjoy what was forecasted to be the nicest day of the weekend.

After a pitstop for McDonalds for breakfast, we were on the road by 9:30am. Harper was happy to see the "little TV" on the headrest for our roadtrip and requested to watch "Frosty the Snowman" first. Yes, Frosty in May. She also kept telling me, "I really love to play in the snow." It's clear she's a winter baby!

After a 2-hour, traffic free drive we arrived in sunny Brainerd. Since it was too early to check in, we met Bob, Deb, Mike and Jennie at Cragun's for lunch before the boy's tee time at 1pm. As the boys drove off in their golf carts, the girls (and Emmett) headed to the cabin.

Once we were unpacked and settled into our "home" for the next 3 days, we immediately put on our suits and headed to the pool. Hours were spent in the water and our anti-swimmer was floating in the deep end by herself within 30 minutes. Emmett joined us in the pool for the first time and LOVED it. He splashed and didn't seem to mind the water dripping off his nose. It was a great way to start our long weekend.

We lucked out the rest of the weekend with decent weather. As the cities groaned about their gray sky and occasional rain shower, we were content with our sunshine. Harper would have lived outside, if we would have let her. She played with the neighbor girls, picked seashells at the beach, dug in the sand, played at the playground, fished off the dock, tossed around the bocce ball and swam in the pool until she was all tuckered out. Our outdoorsy girl was in heaven!

Our days spent soaking up cabin life was exactly what we needed. As we drove away Monday morning, we promised we'd be back again next year. We're all looking forward to it!

Last Monday, our lil fella turned 9 months. (sigh) Even though I know each milestone and upcoming stage we'll experience with Emmett is an absolute blast, it still makes me a smidgen sad that my baby isn't going to be a baby much longer. (double sigh)

Turning 9 months meant we had a check up with our pediatrician. As usual our relaxed little duder did great. The kid didn't even shed a tear when they gave him a shot and poked his finger. He weighed in at 20lbs and is 28.5 inches long. He's right in the 50th percentile for both categories.

His head circumference, that's another story. Each time we visit the pediatrician, they insist on re-measuring his head several times. Now it's something I just expect them to do. After 5+ measurements they settled on a number, which puts him in the 99th percentile . Harper was a big headed baby too, so I guess I'm not super surprised.

It's hard to believe in 3 short months E will be one. ONE! Oh my word. Before I start shedding tears, I should move on. (Time, you could slow down a bit.)

This past Sunday we celebrated my dear friend Jenna, who is a Mama-to-be. She's expecting a sweet baby boy in June and we couldn't be more excited for her and Noel.

We opted to have the shower at French Meadow Bakery in Minneapolis. Renting the space allowed the hosts to save time cleaning their house and preparing food. We simply showed up and enjoyed ourselves.

The soon-to-be Mama was glowing and looks fabulous (no matter what she says.) In a few short weeks Jenna will be holding that sweet bundle and I absolutely can't wait to meet him!

Tomorrow is our last day of work for the week, then we're headed to Nashville for the long weekend! I've been asking everyone what their "must do" is in Music City - so feel free to share! I want your recommendations!

Until next time…
The Helleens
