Holding Hands

"How was your day?"

How often are we asked that question? I'm sure it's something I hear and say on a daily basis. We're all guilty of asking our spouses, family, friends and kiddos a form of this phrase - hoping to get something more than a one word answer.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays I can't wait to ask Harper those four little words. Last Thursday after work I picked her up and started asking my long list of interrogating questions, one answer stopped me in my tracks.

Me: Harper, how was your day at school?
Harper: Oh it was good.
Me: What did you do?
Harper: Oh! Oh! I held hands with a boy! (she said his name, but I'll protect his identity! :)) We're the bestest of friends. It was so much fun!

My questions stopped after that. Mostly because I couldn't stop laughing at her candid and so matter-of-fact response. Apparently she's 3 going on 13. I also couldn't wait to get home so Harper could tell Mitch about her day.

Once we got home, Mitch asked Harper that magic little phrase we hear so often. "How was your day Harper?" She went on to tell him the same exact story she told me. Watching Mitch's face was priceless. After hearing, "I held hands with a boy! We're the bestest of friends." all he could say was, "Oh, you did?" I sat back and watched as Mitch got his first tiny taste of Harper and boy talk. It was quite entertaining.

We never got a clear answer as to why they were holding hands. My guess is they were playing a game, or buddies while walking in line. No matter the reason - it's still going down as one of my favorite stories!

Harper had to write what she was thankful for. Heart. Melted.

As I mentioned last week, Emmett's personality is really starting to shine through. He loves throwing EVERYTHING. Food, toys, balls - you name it, he throws it. Bats, hockey sticks and golf clubs are also a favorite of his. It's just important to make sure you're not too close, or you will get whacked.

Although he is showing a little attitude at times when he doesn't get his way, he's still our smiley, goofy, snuggly, easy-going kiddo. We've had zero progress in the walking department. He will stand on his own and give us that adorable squinty smile, but as soon as I say "Walk!" he lowers himself to the ground and speed crawls. Maybe by Christmas he'll be an exclusive walker, but at this point I'm not holding my breath.

Last weekend we celebrated the bride-to-be, Paige at Coup d'état in Minneapolis. The decor was so eclectic and the overall vibe was so awesome. I couldn't stop staring at the chandeliers hanging over us, I was just trying to figure out to how get something like that into my own home!

We shared a lot of laughs and Paige got some really great things for her and Noah's next adventure. With their wedding just a few months away, it's almost time to start the countdown to Costa Rica!

Until next time…
